Lana’s New Push: Vince’s Game of Russian Roulette

The chants of Lana can be heard loud and clear all across the WWE universe. Her character is beginning to transform and don’t think the evil genius Mr. McMahon hasn’t noticed.  There has been continuous talk of long term plans to make her the female face of the WWE. Is it too early? Will it work?

Obviously, we are all well aware of what Lana is bringing to the table. But haven’t we been fooled before with so-called wrestlers like Kelly Kelly and Candice Michelle? They both at their respective times were the most attractive women on the roster and used a very provocative style to win over the fan base. The difference with Lana is her image of intelligence, the style of her clothes and overall appearance. Well, if you are only looking at her on screen that is….

There are so many questions that remain unanswered, with one of the most important being, “What happens to Rusev? Rusev’s character was predicated on his thought provoking and highly attractive representative. Is Rusev all of a sudden going to speak clear English and cut a glorious promo?  The two have great chemistry between them and without Lana Rusev is nothing more than a big Russian with greasy hair. Yes he could still be a heel, but without this relationship it will be a hard sell at first.

So what will her role be and when will she turn face? Will it be as a wrestler or a manger of another talent? The other question is, “can she wrestle?” I personally think the Diva division has made great strides over the last several months, but to add another “all looks and know wrestle” diva to the fold could reverse its direction. I know I may get beat up for this, but I think Nikki Bella has come a long way and has held her own in the ring on a consistent basis. We all know how intriguing Paige has become and the NXT future is more than bright, it’s beaming.

I keep thinking why turning Lana right now is a good decision. Is it to get ratings because of the constant drop off on Raw? Does he think the Lana/Rusev gimmick has run dry? I personally think she is perfect in the role as a manager. If the Rusev relationship is running dry, why not pair her with someone like Neville and make her dress a little more provocative. I’m sure that would definitely give the audience a little more of what they want and also let her character build as well.

Whatever the case may be, turning Lana into the female face already seems to be in motion. We are all aware of the awkward waves to the crowd and the predictable early exits ordered from the Bulgarian Brut. I just hope this idea won’t leave us with a Divas champion who can’t wrestle again. Sometimes Vince has brilliant ideas, but tends to rush into them too soon. This could turn out be a complete bust or an upper deck homerun. It all remains to be seen. One thing is for sure though; we all will have a Ravishing Russian to admire on Monday nights for some time to come!

  1. I’m also intrigued to see how this one plays out but I too have my concerns of them attempting to turn Lana into a wrestler. I think she needs to stay as manager to get the best out of her whether it be with Rusev or someone else; I think it’s way too much of a risk having her compete in-ring.

I agree that the Lana – Rusev partnership works very well but it’s more than obvious Vince thinks it’s time to split them so it’s just a matter of time.

I know in a million years this will probably never happen but I would love to see her manage/valet Roman Reigns either as a heel or face duo, I think they would work… but maybe I only say that cos the less Reigns speaks the better.
