By following specific Independent Wrestlers and reading about their storied careers, I was able to catch up with some of them and conduct an interview which allows them to share with us their story. My next interview was conducted with a highly familiar name from the UK, Nadia Sapphire. Recently I was able to catch up with Nadia and she was gracious enough to put a halt to her busy schedule to discuss her career, future, and accomplishments. This is what she had to say.
How long have you been wrestling?
Well technically you could say I started training at 14 years old and made my debut at 16. I had a setback with a serious knee injury at 18 that forced me out of action for nearly 2 years. Unfortunately, I had to take off another 2 years due to personal reasons, which didn’t allow me to fully regain my true form until April 2013. I’ve been back for almost 2 years now and so far feel great. As you can see, with the many gaps in between, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly how long I have been performing.
What would you say is your greatest accomplishment in the sport of professional wrestling?
Coming back from my knee injury and personal issues was a big thing for me at the time. Being able to work my way back from such extraordinary circumstances was a feat in itself. It was an extremely challenging time, both mentally and physically, that tested my passion to a whole new level.
As an Independent wrestler, do you pay attention or follow other federations?
Regardless of what people say I love the WWE. This is where my dreams and visions began. The WWE is the main reason why I chose my profession and why I fell in love with the sport of professional wrestling. I’m an avid watcher and a true fan.
What would be your dream match?
I’d love to work a match with Trish Stratus as she was my idol growing up. I’d also love to work with Molly Holly. I feel because of her style, I could really learn a lot from her in the ring.
What separates you from other female wrestlers?
It is 2 things; my character and confidence. I’m not afraid to make myself look silly, as I am very careful not to take anything too serious. One of the most important virtues of my personality is that I don’t have an ego. I let nothing stand in the way of success.
Who are/were some of your favorite wrestlers and why?
Not to mimic my comments from earlier, but growing up it was Trish Stratus. She dominated the women’s division for 6 years and gave it stability. She was beautiful, had charisma, had physicality, and for me she’s my all time dear.
What needs to be accomplished in your eyes to be able to look back and call your career a success once it’s over?
I want to travel the world performing in the many arenas for professional wrestling. In doing so, I would be one of the most talked about female wrestlers in the UK. This would hopefully lead to me working for one of the major companies to compete as one of their attractions.
