NFL Championship Weekend…Road to Arizona Continues

champs

The stage is set and ready for Prime Time. The road to the Superbowl continues on Sunday when arguably 4 of the Top 5 quarterbacks will be on display for the entire world to watch. Last weekend we seen an underdog in the Ravens squander a game away and possibly a true legend of the game in Manning take his last NFL snap. Superman was alive for one-quarter, but an evil enemy named Chancellor proved to be too strong for his punch. Lastly, we seen America’s team lose by a bobble and a courageous athlete lead his Pack to victory who could barely even give a discount double-check to his opposition. I am sure this weekend will leave a lasting impression on us all and prove to be just as entertaining.

Packers at Seahawks

One week after a gutsy performance by Aaron Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers travel to Seattle to take on the Seattle Seahawks and the Legion of Boom. We all know about the calf, but despite the injury, Rodgers completed 24 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns against Dallas. The running game proved to be efficient enough to keep some pressure of the QB with Eddie Lacy running for over 100 yards on 19 carries. It was also nice to see the other receivers not named Jordy (Cobb and Adams) step up and eclipse the 100 yard receiving mark.

The Seahawks meanwhile were exactly who we thought they were in a 31-17 defeat of the Carolina Panthers. Russell Wilson delighted fans all over the football world as he showed why he is one of the most electric and top QB’s in the league as he passed for three touchdowns on 15 completions. The Legion of Boom did their job as they pressured Cam Newton all game forcing him into two interceptions and erratic throws most of the day. Seattle sits at 7-1 at home including a 36-16 victory over the Packers in Week 1 and has been playing at level that may be even higher than that of last year. Look for the Seahawks to throw the heavy blitz book at Rogers forcing him to put pressure on the calf trying to be the mobile QB he can be when healthy. Green Bay is a formidable opponent, but under these circumstances I think they will come up short.

Prediction: Packers 17, Seahawks 23

Colts at Patriots

The Ravens came out throwing knockout punches from the gate, but didn’t have the stamina to preserve a win. Bill Belichick put the game into the hands of his HOF Quarterback in the 2nd Half and the rest is history.  This week the Patriots welcome Andrew Luck and the Colts into their house of Gold, as they square off into a battle for supremacy in the AFC. The Patriots have won the last five meetings between these teams by an average of 18 points. The Patriots ran all over the Colts back in Week 11 in Indianapolis. I am sure everyone remembers the Jonas Grey game that haunted fantasy players all around the world. Look for Tom Brady to continue to use his offensive vision and mighty arm to wear down the Indianapolis defense and open up the field.

On the flipside, Andrew Luck leads the league’s top ranked pass attack in the regular season into Gillette in the hopes of earning a trip to the big dance. The Colts have been slowly trying to bring their run game back from the depths of the unknown with the emergence of Dan Herron. Herron took over for an overvalued T-Rich and has proved to be a spark. He has an incredible 18 catches so far this post-season which gives this offense yet another weapon in the passing game for the Patriots to defend against. Indianapolis will look downfield to TY Hilton whenever they can and should find some opportunities if the taller Browner is lined up opposite against the smaller quicker Hilton.

I think this is the game out of the 2 that has a chance to keep us guessing. These are two exciting teams and should put up a decent amount of points. Chuck Pagano has really proved himself to be an incredible gameday coach and doesn’t get anywhere near the respect he deserves. I see this game being decided late with only a touchdown as separation. Both teams will go to their air attacks early and often. Despite the Colts improved defense and the Patriots strong secondary, I think this game will have so many highlights they may need to add another 5 minute segment on Sportscenter to be able to see them all.

Prediction: Colts 31, Patriots 38
